Supply of laborers far exceeds demand for laborers

Here is an excellent illustration of the hurdle one faces when trying to become a National Park Ranger.

On 1 November, the NPS published a job announcement for a seasonal GS-05 Park Ranger (Interpretation) at Aztec Ruins NM in Aztec, New Mexico.

Within an hour the announcement's posting, I had applied.

It is now 8 November, and there are 212 applicants.

The announcement is open until 15 November.

That's 212 applicants so far, for a job that pays about $12 an hour, with no benefits, and extends less than 6 months.

This is why tomato-picking pays so poorly.

Heh. Because they get 200+ applicants for every tomato-picking job?
