Last summer, working as middle-management at a Boy Scout Camp, I had a long conversation with a number of young men. They were anticipating the introduction of military conscription. I argued, at great length, that you would sooner see Al Qaeda crossing the border from Canada with seven armored divisions and air support, than the introduction of compulsory military service. The teenage boys put all my arguments to shame, noting simply, and repeatedly, "But it could happen!"
